Tips Before Your First Driving Lesson Ever

Driving offers freedom, however, this does not come without a price and responsibility that most new learner drivers simply are not accustomed to. The thought of being in control of a car may seem daunting to begin with, and most feel nervous when getting behind the wheel of a car. Every new driver will have a different beginning, however, with the right driving classes and instructor, you too can learn to drive with confidence.

Get plenty of rest the night before your first driving lesson

It is important that you are well-rested when taking your driving lesson. This is why one of the most important tips is to get a good night of sleep.

Being well-rested will help you to stay focused, and alert, and will help you to feel ready to take on any new challenge. Experts also say that getting enough sleep is important for “procedural memory”, this is the learning memory that helps people acquire new memories when taking on something they have never tried before. Never get behind the wheel of a car when you are tired, this is the number one cause of road accidents.

Make sure to familiarise yourself with the overall layout of a car

While cars are fairly different from one another, they all still come with a few basic features that are found in every vehicle on the road, these will include the following:

  • An accelerator pedal;

  • A brake pedal;

  • A steering wheel;

  • Indicators and lights;

  • Rearview mirrors;

  • Clutch pedals, however, these are only found in stick shift cars;

  • A gear stick;

  • A dashboard instrument panel;
